Home Cooking

I remember the days after school we would play til we were called in for dinner. We would all sit together at the table and eat whatever was set before us, like it or not.  Not that I think we should be forcing our children to eat things like liver  or … you fill in […]

Spring

Posted in Fitness, General, Health

I know a lot of people have a tough time staying positive through the long season when late fall and winter have shorter days, many times gloomy rays, but everything starts with your focus.  What are you focusing on today? A great quote from John Maxwell’s book Thinking  For A Change says “no good thing […]

Garlic

Posted in Food, General, Health, Nutrition

I could easily talk about garlic for a month, so I will.  February will be a celebration of the benefits of garlic.  I had a natural doctor for a very long time and he said, if you can’t smell the garlic coming out of your pores, you haven’t been getting enough!  I remember watching old […]

More about Adaptogens

I hope you will enjoy this information I am sharing again from “Adaptogens, Herbs for Strength, Stamina, and Stress Relief: by David Winston and Steven Maimes”.  I myself am not an expert on the subject but have taken advantage of others expertise over many years and have had great results.  I certainly  am not prescribing, […]

Less stress would mean better quality life.  We can not get rid of all the things that cause stress, but we can learn to better manage it.  Exercise, eating better, ie: reducing the intake of sugar and caffeine, and adding an adaptogen  when pertinent.  “Adaptogens are remarkable natural substances that help the body adapt to […]

Energy

Posted in Food, General, Health

We all want enough energy to do the things we need to get done, with some left for fun!  Complex carbohydrates have gotten thrown out with the whole no carbs diets.  If you want to have energy your body’s primary source of fuel is complex carbohydrates.  They are converted to fuel.  Remember it is quality […]

Dry Skin Remedies

As the days get colder the skin can get dry and itchy.  Here are some ideas from a book that is called Natural Cures and Gentle Medicines by FC&A. 1: Wash you skin with warm or cool water, never hot. 2: Baths are actually less drying to your skin than showers, but don’t soak longer […]

Recipe from The Healing Foods/Rodale Press

Posted in Books, Food, Health, Nutrition

All of life can’t be so strict that there is no time for silliness, fun and foods to enjoy.  Forever food has been a part of gathering with friends and family and just because you want to be healthy and trim doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy some tasty treats.  I found this recipe in a […]

Love yourself healthy, love others better.

Posted in Exercise, Fitness, Food, General, Health

That probably sounds a bit strange, but if you learn the value of  loving yourself you will be better able to love others.  Loving yourself , not like “it’s all about me 24/7” is actually being responsible and unselfish.  Each of us uniquely created individuals are part of a much bigger plan.  If we develop […]

Most Americans are aware that heart disease has been the number one cause of death in the US, now following close behind if not surpassing is diabetes.  Most Americans are also aware that our diet can really make a difference in our health.  What kind of foods and how much, that is the question!  You […]

Though I attend several of her classes, where Darla truly shines is as a personal trainer and
health coach. She saw where I was, and helped me to get where I wanted to be, even though I
wasn’t sure I was communicating it clearly. After just a year my Dr. was amazed to report my
bone density had improved, and my overall health was enhanced. Darla keeps training fresh,
challenging, and enjoyable; and she is always supportive and encouraging. During this time of
sheltering I have been continuing my training sessions via Skype, and her eagle eye doesn’t
miss a thing…still correcting my form and pushing me to go beyond where I thought I could go.
Thank you doesn’t seem nearly enough for someone who got me back on a positive health track
that has enriched body, mind and spirit. But thank you anyway, Darla.
