Dry Skin Remedies

Posted in Books, Food, General, Health

As the days get colder the skin can get dry and itchy.  Here are some ideas from a book that is called Natural Cures and Gentle Medicines by FC&A. 1: Wash you skin with warm or cool water, never hot. 2: Baths are actually less drying to your skin than showers, but don’t soak longer […]

Recipe from The Healing Foods/Rodale Press

Posted in Books, Food, Health, Nutrition

All of life can’t be so strict that there is no time for silliness, fun and foods to enjoy.  Forever food has been a part of gathering with friends and family and just because you want to be healthy and trim doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy some tasty treats.  I found this recipe in a […]

Love yourself healthy, love others better.

Posted in Exercise, Fitness, Food, General, Health

That probably sounds a bit strange, but if you learn the value of  loving yourself you will be better able to love others.  Loving yourself , not like “it’s all about me 24/7” is actually being responsible and unselfish.  Each of us uniquely created individuals are part of a much bigger plan.  If we develop […]

Sitting vs Moving

Posted in Books, Exercise, Fitness, Health

I’d like to share a paragraph from an article that was from www.nytimes.com/2011/04/17/magazine/mag-17sitting.  Hope you can find it like this.  The article addresses the dangers of the sedentary society in which we live. “This is your body on chairs: Electrical activity in the muscles drops-“the muscles go as silent as those of a dead horse,” […]

Common Sense

Posted in Exercise, Fitness, Food, General, Health, Nutrition

Common sense is your friend!  When it comes to health and fitness remembering basic fundamentals and applying them is most important.  For instance when I was a kid eating was all about the four basic food groups.  Now there is the pyramid from the RDA and a lot of other information about what is good […]

Change

Posted in Books, Exercise, Fitness, General, Health, Nutrition

Change of seasons, change of direction, change of mind, change location….Change is a regular part of our everyday life. Some is good and comes easy. Other changes are much more challenging and sometimes we are forced into it.  I used to like the saying, “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.”  If what you are […]

Plan to Eat

Posted in Health

With today’s very busy schedules it is almost a necessity to plan to eat.  When we skip meals there is an uneven distribution of calories throughout the day.  This deprives our body of the energy it needs to function properly.   We need energy for our daily demands, and for the  brain and organs to have […]

Your Nutrient Status

Posted in General, Health, Nutrition

Your body is a record keeping machine!  Much like we use the credit card without thinking, then the bill comes, and wow!, we didn’t realize we spent so much, the body is recording every nutrient (or non-nutrient thing) you put it.  We don’t realize it at first because we don’t get a statement every month […]

Though I attend several of her classes, where Darla truly shines is as a personal trainer and
health coach. She saw where I was, and helped me to get where I wanted to be, even though I
wasn’t sure I was communicating it clearly. After just a year my Dr. was amazed to report my
bone density had improved, and my overall health was enhanced. Darla keeps training fresh,
challenging, and enjoyable; and she is always supportive and encouraging. During this time of
sheltering I have been continuing my training sessions via Skype, and her eagle eye doesn’t
miss a thing…still correcting my form and pushing me to go beyond where I thought I could go.
Thank you doesn’t seem nearly enough for someone who got me back on a positive health track
that has enriched body, mind and spirit. But thank you anyway, Darla.
