Set some good goals for 2020

Let’s talk about the pancreas! Yep, I know that sounds exciting right. What’s my motto…or at least one of them, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”.  So what do I need the pancreas for when I can just fix my hair and makeup and look good on the outside?? As I have been aging (and don’t laugh so are all of you) I have come to believe that feeling good has moved up ahead of looking good. Now I plan to always look my best, but I know that wrinkles and changes are as sure as the sunrise for every human who lives to a good old age.

Back to the pancreas. The pancreas produces digestive enzymes–digestive enzymes help break down foods in the intestine.  This sounds important right! Without healthy digestion we won’t absorb the vitamins and nutrients from our food. Most people are familiar with the hormone insulin that the pancreas produces in response to the rise in blood glucose after eating to regulate blood sugar. Maintaining blood sugar levels is for the benefit and well being of the WHOLE body. If we want other important organs to be able to do their proper function…like the liver, kidney, nervous system, cardio vascular system and oh yes, the brain, we must purpose to eat things that will bring health.

Let’s make 2020 a year that we eat with wellness in mind. Is your nutritional program balanced? Do you get some quality grains that have high fiber? Lots of good vegetables without added chemicals or sauces or sodium? Do you eat your seasonal fruits, and the right serving size? How about quality protein? (that wouldn’t be like hot dogs or salami or chicken nuggets). Then there are those legumes, don’t forget the legumes!  Are you getting a good amount of water and limiting other beverages, especially alcohol? Sorry to say that alcohol does not have any health benefits (except for maybe wine). Oh yes and please don’t forget exercise. All your organs benefit from a good exercise program! (contact me!)

Join me with the goal of being your best in 2020!
